Kanbans are some of the most versatile and widely used online boards and for good reason. They are incredibly versatile in being able to sort tasks for upcoming projects and are very good at making a complex project seem actionable and palatable.

In our comprehensive guide, we define Kanbans as: “A Kanban board is a task-based project management system meant to visualize the workflow of an entire team. Used correctly, it can circumvent possible bottlenecks and improve overall efficiency. Kanban allows you to visualize the task-based procedure of projects while also thinking about the overall workflow and efficiency.”

This demonstrates the ability of Kanbans to apply to many different scenarios and projects. Regardless of the type of project that you’re working on, Kanban boards should be able to efficiently organize your backlog and help better understand your projects.

  1. Before you begin, focus on a specific project or goal and think about what tasks are needed in order to accomplish it.
  2. By looking at the columns, sort these tasks into their various places to visualize how close you are to completing your project/reaching your goal. What tasks need to be prioritized in order to get there? Which tasks can be left in the backlog for now?
  3. Return to this board as you get closer to completion and watch everything fall into the “complete” column.
